What are some good stretches and exercises to do for the neck and back when you have herniated discs?
I am 24 years old and have 6 herniated discs. 3 or which are in my neck. I don’t believe in medication and don’t want surgery. I’ve been looking for stretches and exercises that can help my body and hopefully decrease the pain I have.3 Likes

Hi! My name is Macey. I’m one of the content specialists at BN and from your previous post, I have to say again how happy I am that you found us. We soooo get it. We’re in pain too and I specifically deal with lower back and neck pain like yourself. My dad actually also has herniated discs in his back and neck. Growing up with him, I never realized the extent of his pain until back pain affected my life. Then I found BN and it’s honestly been life changing. To learn from a group of people who experience what I do is comforting and refreshing. I’ve learned so much already!
Part of what I’ve learned is that the discs in our spine get nutrition and fluid from movement. If we want them to “be happy” —we must exercise, anyway possible. It doesn’t have to be a sprint — just anything to keep you moving.
Stretching is so important for our backs and everlasting recovery as well. I read your bio and since you’re up on your feet all day, I think a stretching regime would certainly do your back pain good. Maybe make it part of your morning and evening routine? I’d also recommend yoga, which is relaxing and great for both our minds and bodies.
